The preposition "During, While and For" are usually used as time prepositions. However it's still an issue for some students, who couldn't recognise the correct usage of those prepositions. So let's have a look on the correct usage, and learn when to use During and when to use For and While.
The use of During:
first of all remember that During is followed by a noun. To say When something happens.
During + noun
Examples:
- The student were quiet during the lecture.
- The fans were cheering during the game.
The use of For:
For is a preposition which used to state How long is something happens.
For + length of time
Examples:
- You have been studying for three hours.
- We waited here for a long time.
The use of While:
While again is a preposition that used to talk about two things that happened in the same time, whereas the length of time is not important
While + subject + verb
Examples:
- The dog was barking while I was trying to sleep.
- I wasn't listening while you were talking.
